A group of 100 persons attacked the house of an NRI at Lalton Kalan village on late Monday night, injuring his family members, after the latter lodged a complaint with the civil surgeon against a local doctor for allegedly distributing intoxicating drugs to local residents. The victim family has filed a complaint at police station Sadar.

While talking to The Times of India, Harkomal Singh, an NRI from Spain, informed that they had given a complaint to the Sahnewal civil surgeon on April 5 as to how the self-proclaimed doctor was allegedly providing wrong medicines to patients visiting his clinic and distributing drugs among local youths.

The team of health department allegedly raided the doctor on Monday evening and took samples of medicines. The NRI alleged in his complaint that the doctor along with other 100 local youths attacked his friend Palwinder and then attacked his (NRI's) house, injuring his family members. He said Palwinder received major injuries on his arm and was admitted in a private hospital while others, including his brother Gurmeet Singh, sisterin-law Jagjeevan Kaur, and their daughters Ekampreet and Sukhanpreet, received minor injuries.

The NRI has sought the arrest of the accused and the closure of the doctor's clinic. ''We didn't do anything wrong. We openly lodged a complaint against the alleged accused. The police must prevent him from exploiting the youth,'' he added.
