NRI commission notice to bank for ‘fraudulent withdrawals’

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab NRI commission has served a summons notice to a Jalandhar branch of HDFC Bank in a case related to the fraudulent withdrawals worth Rs 70 lakh from the account of an NRI.
UK-based NRI Jagdev Singh Sanghia had moved the commission after the bank officials did not heed his complaints, a commission spokesman here said.
The fraudulent withdrawals pertained to the aggrieved NRI savings as well as fixed deposit accounts, the spokesman added.
The commission has sent notices to the bank’s general manager in Chandigarh and its chief manager of the Model Town branch in Jalandhar to appear before the commission on November 13 with a reply to the NRI’s complaint that contained documentary evidences pertaining to the fraud.
