VANCOUVER : Alberta’s top military unit is set to lead the Calgary Sikh community’s Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday, marking the first time the 41 Canadian Brigade will officially join the local Sikh community for the day’s events.
According to the Canada Sikh Community Military Liaison, senior officers and army members will lead Sunday’s ceremonies at the Deshmesh Cultural Centre, Calgary.
The soldiers will be joined by community leaders and politicians as they lead the community in a ceremony to honour Cpl Nathan Cirillo, who was killed by gunman Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, while standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, as well as Patrice Vincent, a warrant officer who died in Montreal after a man ran him over with a car.
The ceremony will begin at 11.30 am and will be followed by lunch, a presentation of a special sword marking the occasion and a donation to the military families.
