Ludhiana : On the third and concluding Sangat Darshan for NRIs today, only 174 persons from seven districts, Ludhiana, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Sangrur, Ropar and SAS Nagar- appeared with their complaints. Most of these were regarding land disputes and marital discord.
As many as 233 complaints were received at the NRI Sangat Darshan in Jalandhar and 173 at the Sangat Darhsan at Moga a few days ago. There were more officials than complainants at the Chief Minister’s function today.
The maximum complaints came from Ludhiana district (113), followed by SAS Nagar (15), Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (13), Sangrur (12), Patiala (10) Ropar (8) and Fatehgarh Sahib (3).
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said to prevent undue harassment, any complaint against an NRI was investigated at the level of the Inspector-General (IG), NRI cell. He said the NRIs wanted the investigations to be conducted at the level of the SSP.
He said his government was considering their plea. He said the state government would take steps to expedite court cases concerning the NRIs.
Expressing concern at the pendency of cases in courts set up for the NRIs in Jalandhar, the Chief Minister said he would take up the issue with the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by NRI Affairs Minister Jathedar Tota Singh.
No deal with BJP: CM
Ludhiana: Denying a deal with the BJP on the transfer of Niranjan Singh, Assistant Director of Enforcement Directorate, Jalandhar, who was the key investigating officer in the high-profile Bhola drug racket, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday claimed that transferring any ED officer was the prerogative of the Central Government and that the Punjab government was not taken into confidence on the matter. He was speaking on the sidelines of the third NRI Sangat Darshan here. Niranjan Singh had interrogated state Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia in December.
