Jailed in UK, Malkit’s daughter put on sexual offenders’ list

CHANDIGARH: Amardip Bhopari (originally Boparai), 28-yearold daughter of Punjabi pop singer Malkit Singh, based in Birmingham, UK, has been convicted on the charges of sexual relations with her minor student, who suffers from a learning disorder. In the Birmingham Crown Court, she admitted to three charges of sexual activity with a child.

Amardip started working with students with learning disorders at an academy school in 2012. She was employed as the art teacher.

She was arrested in December 2013. Sentenced to two-year imprisonment on January 16, she will be on the sexual offenders’ register for 10 years.

Malkit, who shot to fame with ‘Gur Nalon Ishq Mitha’, was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2008. He has not responded to media queries about Amardip. He is also said to have deactivated his profiles on Facebook and Twitter.

As per reports in British newspapers, Amardip’s counsel said she was full of remorse and had “fallen in love” with the boy, and despite knowing that what she was doing is wrong, continued to engage him in a sexual relationship. The boy suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and dyslexia.
