LONDON: British Prime Minister David Cameron on Friday visited one of the largest gurdwaras in the UK and discussed the issues facing the Sikh community in the country, ahead of the national elections in May
The Prime Minister joined worshippers at Gurdwara Sahib, Leamington and Warwick, after meeting its committee members and volunteers.
According to Britain’s 2011 census, the UK is home to about 4.3 lakh Sikhs, of which 4.2 lakh live in England alone. They have a considerable influence on 50 to 100 seats of Parliament, out of 650.
The British Sikh community has recently launched a firstof-its-kind political campaign targeting 50 seats nationwide for the general election, that is expected to be the most closely-fought in modern British history.
