LONDON: Britain’s regulator of charities has opened an inquiry into alleged immigration-related irregularities in the functioning of the Manchester-based Khalsa Missionary Society, that aims to help the Sikh community here.
The Charity Commission, the independent regulator of charities, said on Wednesday that the inquiry had been opened as a result of an ongoing investigation by the Home Office into suspected immigration abuse. The inquiry will also examine whether the society was set up and registered with the commission for an improper purpose, and if it had been used for a noncharitable purpose. It will also examine whether the trustees had personally benefited from charitable funds.
