PATIALA: A distraught family at Salluwal village in the district has been running from pillar to post to bring the body of their kin, found dead under mysterious circumstances, from the United States of America to the country, for nearly a month now.

Narinder Singh, 45, a cook at a restaurant at Los Angeles in California, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on March 19. The family here remains unclear on the cause of death and was informed of the tragedy over phone by roommates of the deceased. The local police (in the US) are yet to register a case, the family has claimed.

Since that call on March 19 evening, the family has spent sleepless nights and has explored all possible avenues to get back the body.

“As soon as we received the news, we applied for emergency visas to visit the US to enable us to perform the last rites of my husband and to bring back his ashes. However, the US Embassy rejected our application,” Sukhpal Kaur, the wife of Narinder claimed.

Sahib Singh, the father of the deceased, said, “Since receiving the news, we have had sleepless nights. The Punjab and the Central government must intervene.”

Nabha MLA Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, who visited the family on Friday, said he had contacted Nabha SDM and the DSP and asked them to represent the case before the state government.
