Canada’s Sikh MLA dies in road crash

CHANDIGARH: Canada’s Sikh legislator of Punjabi origin Manmeet Singh Bhullar was killed in a car crash on Monday. According to the reports reaching here, the 35-year- old Bhullar, a Progressive Conservative member of Alberta Legislature, was on his way to Edmonton when the accident happened on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway. Bhullar was first elected to the Alberta Legislature in March 2008

According to a briefing issued by Canadian Police, the preliminary investigation indicated that the northbound vehicle lost control and rolled into the median on the south side of the Blindman river hill after a semi-truck struck the rear of the first vehicle. Bhullar had served as Infrastructure Minister under former premier Jim Prentice and had raised several Sikh related issues including the human rights violation allegedly committed by the Punjab Police in Canada. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal have mourned his sudden demise.
