UK university to train Punjab Police personnel

CHANDIGARH: A delegation of Nottingham Trent University, UK, headed by its vice-chancellor Prof Edward Peck and pro-vice-chancellor Prof Nigel Healey on Saturday met director general of police (DGP) Suresh Arora here and explored possibilities of collaboration in training Punjab Police personnel.
According to a police spokesperson, various areas of collaboration discussed included running short-duration courses of four to eight weeks for lower and upper subordinate-level police officers from constable to inspector with a foreign (UK) component of one to two weeks.
Women police officials would be especially encouraged to participate in such courses in large numbers.
The modalities of working out a tripartite agreement among Nottingham Trent University, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and Punjab Police Academy (PPA), Phillaur, for enriching the police administration courses being run at PPA were also discussed.
Special emphasis during the discussion was laid on how to give exposure to police officers up to the rank of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) on best police practices at international level.
This would not only enable police officers to discharge their duties more effectively and professionally but would also act like a great motivator to them, the spokesperson said.
