Melbourne: Former union minister and Congress MLA from Patiala Preneet Kaur, while concluding her three weeks visit to New Zealand and Australia, an appealed to the Punjabi youth working abroad to send a message across to their families in Punjab to help rebuild a Hasda Vasda Punjab. Kaur, while addressing a gathering of Punjabi youth in Thornbury Theatre, pleaded: “Please make a right choice this time. Capt Amarinder Singh is a tested, tried and able administrator, who has the capacity and reputation to deliver what he promises, and, therefore, I appeal for your help and cooperation.”
“I wish the youth in Punjab get the same kind of environment and job opportunities that you have here,” she told the gathering but regretted that Punjab has been pushed into crisis mode. “No employment opportunities for youth, no future for them. It is all darkness with drugs having plagued them,” she lamented. Reiterating her resolve for empowerment of women, she said that in Punjab “we have dual responsibility” and gave a call for “Beti Bachao and Put Bachao.” “It is effective and focused governance that can help shape the future of the youth. It can create job opportunities,” she said. Ground reality, she said, was that industry had moved out of Punjab; farmers were committing suicides; education system has collapsed. “Education is the biggest tool that can empower anybody,” she said. She said that all these aspect had to be taken seriously to rebuild a debt-free and drug-free Punjab, which you could be achieved only through a responsive administration headed by an able administrator.
Blaming the SAD-BJP regime for bad performance, she said that it was not easy to get out of the mess they have created. “It will not be possible to sort out every problem immediately if the Congress comes to power, for no magic wand would work. You have to struggle; you have to have someone tested and tried for good governance to provide you a right direction,” she observed and warned: “We have been pushed into such a critical situation that we cannot speculate or experiment. We cannot afford the luxury of trialing.”
