A Historic Victory in Halqa Raipur - 27/02/2007
To have grasped the Qila Raipur seat so firmly from the Akalis is a very significant achievement that the entire Qila Raipur Congress team can be justifiably proud of.Unfortunately, we could not carry the entire state, but rest assured that the excellent work of Capt. Amrinder Singh's government will be remembered for far longer than the questionable achievements of the Badal family.
I am sincerely thankful to everyone who worked so tirelessly for my success, both those involved directly in the area and those outside the constituency in other parts of Punjab, India and the overseas who canvassed through their friends and relatives in the area.
Victory in Halqa Qila Raipur would not have been possible without the excellent leadership of Mrs Sonia Gandhi, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Capt. Amrinder Singh and his administration, Dullo sahib and the PPCC team.
Farmers and labourers, rich and poor, locals and NRIs, family and friends, I promise all of you that I will commits all of my energies to the people of this area over the elected term.
To everyone involved, I am eternally indebted and grateful. Whilst every election campaign is different, I cannot help but feel that ours was especially so.
From villages drwajas, berras, dharamshalas, fields, we spread our message far and wide. Our physical activity was immense. Our opponents knew that there was a wind of change. But they never expected this storm and the flood of votes that were cast in our favour.
We must now all work together to make Halqa Qila Raipur a better place. In terms of effort and application, rest assured that I will not be left wanting.
