Your gift to Punjab: the return of the “manji” - 21/10/2008
S. Prakash Singh Badal Ji,
Hon. Chief Minister Punjab
CM Punjab Residence
House 45 Sector 2,
Chandigarh.

Dear Badal sahib,
Your gift to Punjab: the return of the “manji”
It is highly regrettable that your government has absolutely failed to plan effectively for this paddy procurement season.
Most shockingly I noticed the return of the “manji”, which farmers are again carrying to the mandis to rest their tired bodies, while officials fiddle, fumble and harass, something that we had not witnessed in all 10 harvests of the last administration.
Deputing principal secretaries to the districts to resolve issues is an abject admission that this administration has completely failed to get its act together in time.
This is most surprising in the context of your often proclaimed love for the interests of the Punjabi farmer.
Does your government really know the starting principles of administrative efficiency? Or are your ministers so punch drunk on power that they are too preoccupied with the pleasures and perks of office to have lost sight of their primary duty: the delivery of effective governmental service through their respective department?
Sadly, yours is a government long on sloganeering and short on substance. But not even the best of public relations and media management can gloss over the gaping holes in the working of your administration. Your PR Minister may threaten to gherao senior national leaders, but what you and your cabinet really need to do is to gherao your respective consciences.
You owe a full explanation to the people of Punjab as to why we are in this procurement mess.
Kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
JASSI KHANGURA MLA
