10 days after brutal gang-rape, Jalandhar girl fights for life

JALANDHAR/AMRITSAR: A brutal gangrape of a 14-year-old girl has come to the fore after the victim, who was admitted to Jalandhar civil hospital with excessive bleeding on Wednesday and later rushed to a more advanced medical facility in Amritsar, narrated the harrowing incident that occured ten days ago.

The teenage girl was operated upon for over four hours at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar on Thursday. The doctors removed her uterus during the surgery in order to stop the infection from spreading.

Resident of village Mandala Channa under Lohian police station, the girl is still stated to be in a critical condition and is battling for her life.

The victim, it was revealed, was gang-raped by three persons of the same village on January 28 when she had stepped out of her home at around 10 pm to answer the call of nature. She was allegedly abducted, taken to the fields, gang-raped and beaten up by the three men when she resisted their attempts.

She was shifted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar, in a critical condition marked by excessive loss of blood.

Her condition had deteriorated late on Wednesday night, hours after she was brought to the Jalandhar's Civil hospital with severe stomach pain.

Given the damage to her vital organs and excessive blood loss, her condition is stated to be critical even after she underwent a four hour long operation at  the Amritsar hospital.

The doctors said her uterus had to be removed in a bid to save her from infection. There was a considerable damage to her intestine as well, they informed, adding that she was still in an unstable condition and kept under close observation in the Intensive Care Unit.

Finding her condition deteriorating due to excessive bleeding and severe stomach pain, the authorities at the local civil hospital in Jalandhar had decided to refer her to a more advanced medical facility on Wednesday night and shifted her to the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.

Meanwhile, Nakodar police has booked Sher Singh (30), his younger brother Charanjit Singh (22) and Balwinder Singh (25) for kidnapping, rape and threatening to kill the girl in case she disclosed their identity to any one including her parents or reporting the matter to the police.

Her parents came to know about the gang rape Wednesday when she suffered acute pain in the stomach and was taken to civil hospital, Lohian, for treatment.

The doctors at the hospital after examining her properly observed some foul play with the girl and told her parents the exact condition of the girl. Insisted constantly by the parents about the incident, the girl narrated the agony she passed through about ten days back.

She told that she was pounced upon by the trio outside her house when she had stepped out to answer the call of nature. When she resisted the move of the trio, they reportedly gave a severe beating to her and forcibly took to the fields and was raped turn by turn by the trio.

Her relatives told the police that when the bleeding occured excessively on January 30, she was taken to a registered medical practitioner. The condition however worsened the next day and then they took her to a doctor. They were however advised to consult a gynaecologist.

The police are yet to make any arrests in the case and the accused are at large.
