SANGRUR: A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by an additional session judge in Sangrur for murdering his wife for dowry. Another case in this incident is going on against the deceased’s brother-in-law, who was a minor.

The victim’s father-in-law was also allegedly involved in this heinous act but he has already died.

According to the information, one Lakshman Das had filed a complaint with the police in 2010 in which he had stated that he had married off his daughter to a resident of Khanaal Kalan in Sangrur about nine months ago. After three months of the marriage, the girl’s in-laws started harassing her for dowry and due to this he brought his daughter back home with him. Later, after interference of some relatives, the in-laws took the girl back home.

On August 24, the girl’s in-laws informed her father that his daughter got an electric shock. By the time he reached his daughter’s in-laws place, she had already died. A post-mortem was conducted in which it surfaced that the girl was killed by strangulation. The police on Lakshman’s statement registered a case against the girl’s husband, her brother-in-law, a minor and her father-in-law.

Husband has been sentenced to 10 years RI, her brother-in-law is already undergoing court proceedings and her father-in-law has already passed away.
