PATIALA: Despite several boxers at the National Institute of Sports in Patiala making tall claims that Vijender Singh, Olympic medallist, was not involved in any drug dealing or consuming, the police are not ready to buy their versions and give him clean chit. Instead, they seem to have got vital clues linking the Olympian with the arrested NRI drug peddler.
Vijender allegedly tasted drugs just for 'fun' along with his friend and fellow boxer Ram Singh on at least four occasions since December, 2012, the sources said.
In latest revelations, Ram Singh is learnt to have told the police that he had procured heroin weighing two grams on at least four occasions each and shared it with his fellow boxer Vijender, just for fun.
The police are therefore not giving anybody clean chit and are leaving no stone unturned to trace the complete chain of suppliers, drug peddlers and their clients.
The police stated that its aim was not limited to the boxer but it was the larger quarter of the whole case police was looking at. The investigations so far have revealed that Vijender had gone to NRI Anoop Singh Kahlon’s house in Zirakpur to pick up heroin and that too two times.
Sources stated that Vijender’s mobile phone records have been checked and they all state that the boxer used to go to Kahlon’s house.
It was in December that Vijender went to the NRI’s Zirakpur flat and then in February. The boxer came from Delhi to Chandigarh and went to Kahlon’s house and after sometime went back to Delhi.
His call records also state that he was in constant touch with Kahlon even during his training camp at NIS over the phone.
Last time Vijender spoke to Kahlon was on February 26 and then the NRI was arrested from Fatehgarh Sahib.
The NRI has stated that there were four more gang members of his. He allegedly stated that Vijyender and Ram Singh, another boxer, used to take heroine from him.
Vijender’s involvement in the trade has been ruled out as of now by the police but he has been found to have consumed the drug.
On the other hand, the boxer has stated that he only knew Kahlon but he has denied being a part of the racket.
