CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued contempt notice to the Deputy General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for not adhering to the orders of the court to provide security to the Tarn Taran girl who was beaten up by two Punjab police cops in full public view.
In an order by the court few days earlier, the court had asked the CRPF to provide security to the girl and her family instead of the Punjab police personnel as the state police cops were involved in the crime.
On March 20, the court had directed the CRPF to provide the assault victim adequate security while ruling out security by Punjab police personnel.
The two accused Punjab police cops who had assaulted the girl in full public view with the incident captured by a passerby on camera, were arrested on March 11 after the Supreme Court had passed strictures against Punjab government for dilly-dallying in acting on the case despite enough proof in the form of video clearing showing the two cops beating up the girl mercilessly.
The incident had occurred on March 3 and the victim in her complaint had alleged that while she was returning home from a marriage function that day, a truck driver and his accomplices had passed lewd comments against her but when she and her father approached the policemen, both were mercilessly beaten up by policemen on duty, who allegedly accepted bribe from the accused and let them go.
