Huge heroin haul in Punjab, BSF seize 52 kg drug worth Rs.260 cr
In a press note released from the office of the Inspector General of BSF, Punjab Frontiers HQ here said that besides the contraband seized, the BSF troops also recovered one pistol magazine and 19 cartridges including 9 empty ones in two separate incidents.
In the first incident, the troops deployed in the area of BOP T-Bundh in Khemkaran of Ferozepur sector observed suspicious movement of four persons on Pakistan side and two on the Indian side on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday at about 0012 hours.
After some time Pakistani smugglers entered into the Indian Territory and hide themselves in the fields of standing crop of wheat and came near the Border Security Fence with a plastic pipe. The alert BSF troops challenged the suspected smugglers following which they started firing and managed to escape taking the advantage of darkness.
During search, the BSF recovered one plastic pipe about ten feet in length filled with packets of contraband which were counted 32 in number wrapped in cloth which was inserted in the fence. One pistol magazine with 8 cartridges, a Nokia mobile with Pakistani Sim card (V-fone) and 25 gm opium was also recovered from the area near the border security fence about 150 mts from the International border.
In the second incident, the BSF troops heard suspicious sound in between the area of International Border and the Border Security Fence near Roranwala BOP in Bhikipind in Amritsar sector. When challenged by the troops, the smugglers fired bursts of 15 to 20 rounds on BSF men.
The troops also retaliated the firing but the smugglers managed to flee from the scene. During search of the area, the BSF retrieved 20 packets of heroin stuffed in a plastic pipe lying 25 mts ahead of the Border Security Fence.
Cost of the contraband seized is said to be Rs. 210 crore in the International market. This is the second consecutive major achievement of the BSF with in two days. Yesterday the BSF had seized 18 packets of heroin from the border.
