AMRITSAR: An ASI of Punjab Police has been accused of tearing clothes of a woman summoned to a police station to bring medicines for her husband, put in lock-up for his alleged connection with an NDPS case..
Amritsar rural police have initiated probe into the allegation after members of Punjab Mahila Congress led by Vice-President Nimisha Mehta staged dharna outside Bundala police post Thursday, seeking ASI’s dismissal and suspension of other cops who forced her to go for a compromise.
Mehta said the woman was summoned to police post late Wednesday night, but the accused ASI stopped her and tore her clothes. Her son when protested was thrashed by the cops.The Mahila Congress leader further said that the victim was forced to go for a compromise after she approached police to register complaint against the accused.
Meanwhile, Amritsar rural SSP Manmohan Singh said probe had been ordered into the allegations leveled by the woman.The shameful incident comes a month after a young Dalit woman was publicly thrashed by Punjab police cops in adjoining district Tarn Taran when she had approached them after two drivers passed lewd comments against her.
