Police had to cordon off Musa village in the district to arrest three woman drug smugglers, Sammo, Seema and Chando, on Sunday.
Villagers obstructed the policemen in carrying out the arrests, which were ordered as the cops suspected that the women had more 50-kg poppy husk in their possession.
The women belong to Rajasthan and used to smuggle the drugs from Madha Pradesh.
After arresting the women with the contraband, the police have also registered an FIR against Leela Singh, who is brother of village sarpanch, accused Gurdev Singh, Jagga Singh, Gurlabh Singh, Gurmel Singh Gela, Labh Singh, Hardial Singh and other unidentified people under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Mansa SSP Narinder Bhargav said, “When cops went to arrest the accused women, the villagers did not allow the policemen to do their job. The protesters were regular drug users. We have arrested some villagers also.”
