Tension in Malerkotla as teenager burnt to death

MALERKOTLA (SANGRUR): In a gruesome and macabre incident a 13 year old boy studying in class seven was burnt to death by two youth in Malerkotla on Monday. The boy succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. After being set on fire he was left to die struggling on the road.

This led to widespread protests in the area leading to serious tension. The administration is closely monitoring the situation. The situation is said to be tense but under control. The reason behind the gruesome incident is yet to be ascertained. The identity of the culprits has not been revealed so far.

According to the eye witnesses 13 year old Vidhu Jain, son of Navneet Jain, a small time trader was carrying tiffin for his younger brother studying in a local school. He was stopped on the way by two youth who pounced at him and sprinkled kerosene on him before setting him on fire.

It is not known whether there were only two boys involved in the incident or more. However, it was confirmed that the boy struggled to save himself of his own as nobody came to his help or rescue.

The incident led to lot of anger among the people. They blocked the Malerkotla-Ludhiana road and all vehicular traffic was stopped. They were demanding action against the culprits.

Meanwhile the administration has tried to take all precautions with heavy deployment of police. It is curfew like situation in the area and the movement of public has been strictly restricted. The police have asked the people not to give any ear to any sort of rumours.

The police have said that they have identified the culprits who are also believed to be teenagers. Their identity has not been disclosed as yet as police was still carrying out the investigation.
