State Youth Cong alleges supply of substandard wheat to anganwaris

Sangrur : State general secretary of the Punjab Youth Congress Poonam Kangra today alleged that the state government had sent substandard wheat to anganwari centres in the district. She said the quality of wheat was not fit for human consumption.
Kangra said after receiving report about supply of substandard wheat to anganwari centres, she along with a few former municipal councillors today visited some anganwari centres of the city and two villages. She alleged that during their visit, they found foodgrains that were not fit for human consumption. She said after a few months, only wheat and rice had been sent to anganwari centres, while other items had not reached the centres so far.
District programme officer Avtar Kaur said no one had brought the matter of alleged supply of substandard wheat to anganwari centres to her notice so far. She said she would inquire about it now and would return the wheat tomorrow if it was found substandard.
