Sangrur : Former Sangrur MLA Surinderpal Singh Sibia along with Congress workers today held a protest against the poor condition of the local PRTC bus stand.
In a mock act, they released fish into water accumulated after rain at the bus stand, suggesting the Badal government to convert it into a fish farm. He gave this suggestion saying that the setting up of a fish farm would provide job opportunities to the unemployed youth.
Sibia alleged the Badal government had failed miserably in improving the condition of the bus stand in the past several years. He alleged the SAD had cheated the people by making false promises such as the construction of a new bus stand.
He said the government had invited tenders for a new bus stand a couple of time, but every time it proved a futile exercise.
Sibia claimed people had no faith in the ruling alliance. He said the bus stand turned into a pond even after a brief spell of rain. Besides, its toilets were stinking and the entire flooring had come off.
A former municipal councilor, Darshan Kangra, said on the complaint of a BJP leader regarding the poor condition of the bus stand, the matter was under consideration of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission.
Others who participated in the protest were Gurtej Singh Grewal, advocate, former municipal councillors Mahesh Kumar Meshi and Jarnail Singh, Mahila Congress leader Balbir Kaur Saini, Rajinderpal Singh Bhallu and Shaktijeet Singh.
