Sangrur : Congress workers, led by Rahulinder Singh Sidhu, state Youth Congress leader and son of former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, today staged a dharna at Moonak.
Sidhu alleged the Badal government had been indulging in foul play by preparing blue cards of people belonging to the above poverty line category. He said it was “shameful” on part of the present regime as it prepared blue cards of Akali leaders and workers.
He said those belonging to the below poverty line category had been facing harassment in getting blue cards issued. He alleged the Badal government had lost faith of the masses following its “failure” on all fronts.
He alleged the law and order situation in the state had worsened while corruption had reached alarming proportions.
Sangrur: Activists of the Youth Congress today burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister in front of the DC's residence. They were protesting against the non-issuance of blue cards and re-verification of already prepared cards. They blocked the main road and raised slogans against the Badal government.
The protesters alleged on the pretext of re-verification, the government wanted to deny the benefit of the scheme to genuine cardholders. They alleged the government would cancel a large number of blue cards of genuine beneficiaries and instead prepare new cards of its supporters.
They warned the government if any genuine card was cancelled and new cards were not issued to the eligible persons, they would intensify the stir.
Others present on the occasion included state secretary of the Punjab Youth Congress Poonam Kangra, state secretary of the Congress Sewa Dal Lakhmir Singh Sekhon, Harpal Sonu, Vinod Kohrian, Jeet Singh and Roop Singh Dhaliwal.
