HOSHIARPUR: Congress activists on Monday burnt the effigy of Punjab revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia in the wake of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoning him for his alleged involvement in drug racket.

Led by Sewa Dal leader Pankaj Kirpal, the Congress workers held a demonstration in Kamalpur Chowk here. They demanded removal of Majithia from the state cabinet.

“If the chief minister can make his other ministers resign from their offices, why he does not ask Majithia to get aside,” asked Kirpal. He said the chief minister was either being partisan due to his close relationship with Majithia or he was helpless.

The state government should hand over the inquiry to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to let the truth out, he added. “If the state BJP is serious on the drug issue, it should press for the high level probe”, said Kirpal. He said the agitation would continue till Majithia’s ouster.
