HOSHIARPUR : Ac t iv is t s of Congress Seva Dal on Sunday held a demonstration against the Bharatiya Janata Party in protest against its “dual” stand on drugs and militancy. Led by state convener Pankaj Kirpal, the workers marched towards the residence of Union minister of state Vijay Sampla but were intercepted by the police.
They held a dharna on the road near sadar police station and shouted slogans against the centre and state governments. Some of the activists were taken in custody but released after a while.
Addressing the dhar na, Kirpal alleged that BJP leaders were doing double speak on the issue of drugs. He said that state BJP president Kamal Sharma demandd resignation of SAD minister Biram Singh Majithia when he was summoned by Enforcement Directorate in drug smuggling case but when it came to passing no confidence motion against the government on the same issue, BJP leaders sided with its alliance partner. He also accused the chief minister of defending Majithia due to family ties. He asked the BJP leadership to clear its stand on the issue of giving compensation to victims of militancy and blamed it for not condemning SAD MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha who openly claimed himself to be a former militant. He said that Congress Sewa Dal workers would gherao residences of all senior BJP leaders and “expose their real faces”.
