Bathinda : A Youth Akali Dal (YAD) leader opened fire inside the cantonment police station late last evening, injuring a constable. Wanted in numerous cases, he fled after the incident. The victim, Gursewak Singh of Gobindpura village, deployed as munshi, was rushed to the hospital.
Kulbir Naruana and his 12 supporters reportedly arrived at the police station following a dispute with a resident of Kamla Nehru Colony, Hardeep Singh. The latter lodged a complaint saying he had rented his house to Gurdeep Singh who was beaten up by the YAD leader’s supporters and locked inside a room. He also alleged that the attackers took away some valuables.
As constable Hardeep Singh was noting down the complaint, the YAD leader and his men arrived there. When asked to leave, the YAD leader opened fire and a bullet hit the constable.
A case has been registered under various Sections of the Arms Act.
