AMRITSAR: Demanding a hike in salary and regularisation of job, activists of the Mid Day Meal Cook Workers and Management Union staged a protest at Ram Bagh Gardens here on Sunday.
As many as 200 activists gathered at Ram Bagh Gardens to hold a protest march towards the residence of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) Inderbir Singh Bolaria.
The Amritsar police, deployed in heavy number, did not allow the protesters to hold a march.
However, the activists staged a protest inside the garden and raised slogans against the Punjab government. Some of the protestors ran towards the main gate of the garden, but situation was controlled later.
Representatives of the district administration received a memorandum from the protesters and assured them that soon a meeting would be fixed with education minister Daljit Cheema.
