10 hurt as SAD, BJP leaders clash

Amritsar: More than ten persons were injured in clash between Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders over a minor dispute at Tarn Taran on Tuesday.

Both party supporters and municipal councillors allegedly attacked each other with batons and pelted stones in the presence of police but the police become a mute spectator during the entire episode. The supporters of Shiromani Akali Dal and Bhartiya Janata Party staged a dharna and blocked traffic for three hours. According to information, the BJP supporter Sonu of Ward No 6 has a dispute with a Bajrang Dal over a minor issue and the Bajrang and BJP leaders along with the supporters reached police station for complaining against each other but they exchanged heated argument, resulting the BJP supporters staged a dharna in Char Khamba Chownk and blocked traffic and alleged that the police did not take any action against the Bajrang and Shiromani Akali Dal supporter while the SAD and Bajrang also sat on dharna in Bohri Chowk.

The Akali leader cum former councillor alleged that when the Bajrang supporters reached the site the BJP workers attacked on them with batons, resulting 12 persons were injured while two Akali supporters were seriously injured and admitted to civil Hospital. He said that a strict action should be taken against the BJP supporters and leaders.

On the other hand, the BJP district president Navneet Singh Lovely said that they were holding a peaceful protest but the Shiromani Akali Dal leaders and supporters allegedly attacked on them. He blamed that the police was favouring the SAD leaders which was intolerable he said that he has apprised the BJP state president Kamal Sharma about the incident and he assured that the BJP would not tolerate it.He warned the police administration they would launch a protest if the police did not register a case against the alleged accused. Tarn Taran DSP sad that no case has been registered so far and the investigation into the incident were in progress. He said that a strict action would be taken those found guilty.
