Jalandhar : Upset over the pathetic condition of the city roads the Congress councillors registered their complaint with the technical advisor to the Chief Minister V K Bhatt who has come to check the quality of the roads in the city. On Tuesday the councillors not only complained against the MC officials for their carelessness but also showed particular sites to him where residents are bearing the brunt from the past so many years.
The councillors first of all took him to Basti Peer Daad Road where officials have laid down sewerage pipelines around three years ago but never bothered to construct the road again. It is creating a tough time for the commuters as well as the residents of the area. Followed by this, the councillors brought another example of official apathy in front of the technical advisor as in area Basti Bawa Khel the civic officials are going to lay down sewerage lines by scratching the newly constructed road at the cost of Rs 65 lakh.
They complained that officials were well aware of the fact that sewerage lines would be laid down in the locality then they should not have had constructed the road. They rued that it is sheer wastage of public money. The councillors made complaint regarding non construction of Jail Road and Basti Nau from the past ten years despite several requests from the residents.
Leader of opposition Jagdish Raj, however, said that they have highlighted the condition of city roads and even Bhatt has assured that he would mention all these things in his report. He said that it was their responsibility to bring to light all these things and now it is up to the government whether it would act against such officials or not.
It is pertinent to mention here that Bhatt is already upset with the quality of the city roads and on Monday he had visited certain roads as well. He has cautioned the officials not to use poor quality material at the time of construction because it wastes a lot of money in constructing the roads again.
