NAKODAR: Hundreds of Congress workers, led by Nakodar’s former MLA Amarjit Singh Samrai, held a demonstration in front of the Municipal Committee office here on Tuesday against poor civic amenities in the town.
The party workers said poor water supply, faulty sewerage system and dilapidated roads were causing inconvenience to residents.
Samra said there was a lot of anguish among people against municipal officials, who were allegedly adopting a step-motherly treatment towards development of various wards at the instance of the ruling alliance.
“Over ` 16 crore had been sanctioned for the sewerage system in the city. However, the municipal corporation has not completed the work till now,” said Samra adding that instead of any improvement, things were going from bad to worse.
The Congress leader alleged that certain political leaders were hand in glove with contractors and lakhs of rupees were being siphoned off.
