Sangrur : Members of four unions — TET Pass Unemployed Teachers Union, Unemployed Linemen Union, ETT (TET) Pass Unemployed Teachers Union, SSA/RMSA Teachers Union — burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here today. Raising slogans against the Punjab Government, they demanded that their long-standing demands be met.

Their demands include issuance of an advertisement to fill 15,000 posts of master cadre and 10,000 posts of ETT cadre in government schools, issuance of appointment letters to unemployed linemen, regularisation of services of SSA/RMSA teachers and unconditional release of unemployed linemen and teachers from jails.

Among those who took part in the protest were Raghbir Singh Bhawanigarh, state president, TET Pass Unemployed Teachers Union; Pirmal Singh and Soma Singh Bharro, state president and adviser, respectively, of Unemployed Linemen Union Punjab; Joginder Singh Wareh, state vice-president, ETT (TET) Pass Unemployed Teachers Union; and Aman Sharma, press secretary, SSA/RMSA Teachers Union.

Raghbir Singh Bhawanigarh said they had burnt the effigy of the Parkash Singh Badal as he had not invited leaders of these unions to Chandigarh for holding talks to settle their demands.

He said they had met the CM on February 6 at Mullowal village (near Dhuri), while he was holding ‘Sangat Darshan’ programmes in Dhuri Assembly constituency.

He said these unions had also announced to oppose the SAD candidate in the ensuing Dhuri Assembly byelection.

Earlier, members of these four unions gathered at Banasar Garden here and held a meeting. Thereafter, they took out a protest march to the traffic lights chowk near the main bus stand. The protesters also blocked traffic for sometime at the traffic lights chowk.
