TARN TARAN: A local court on Thursday granted bail to two of the four Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) activists who were arrested on a charge of assaulting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raja Joshi, brother of state local bodies minister Anil Joshi, on February 10 at subdivisional magistrate’s office here.
While Jangwinder Jaggu and Rajesh Singh got bail, it was denied to Sarabjit Singh Lalli and Yadvinder Singh Yaddu. Additional sessions judge Darbari Lal, however, made it clear that the bailed out men should make themselves available to the police whenever required.
After hearing the arguments of the prosecution and the defence counsels, the judge contended that even though Jaggu and Rajesh Singh had been on the scene of the Akali-BJP clash, they had no firearm or other weapon on them. Police investigation report was placed on record as evidence. Bail to Yaddu and Lalli was denied after the police pointed out they had wielded firearms during the clash.
BJP FLAYS RELEASE
After the court decision to grant bail to the two accused, the local BJP leadership protested before senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manmohan Sharma, accusing the police of diluting the case by removing IPC Sections 307 from the FIR before presenting it to the court.
The SSP said: “There is no move to dilute the case, and if we had dropped the attempt to murder section from the FIR indeed, then Yaddu and Lalli would also have got bail.”
