LUDHIANA: All India Jat Mahasabha Punjab strongly protested against the central government which passed the Land Acquisition Bill on Wednesday, in front of mini secretariat.
Damanjit Singh Mohie, district president of the union, while addressing the gathering said that this ordinance was going to favour only a handful of big industrial houses. “The people of India will never forget the injustice being done to the farmers of the country,” he said.
“The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) government is also shedding crocodiles tears. If they are with the farmers, they should walk out of the cabinet and protest against this bill,” said Mohie.
Another member of the union, Rupinder Singh Raja, said, “The BJP government has always been against the farmers. The government has shown that they are puppets in the hands of a few big industrialists. The previous Congress-led UPA government passed an ordinance which gave power to the land owners to take decisions regarding their land but the Modi government has taken away all the rights from the people.”
Jasminder Singh Sandhu from the union said, “Farmers are already committing suicides due to debts and the government, instead of helping, is piling up more problems on them. Modi government will have to pay a heavy price for that.”
