Dhuri (Sangrur) : Independent candidate for the Dhuri Assembly bypoll Bikram (36) from Dhanaula, who hurled a shoe at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal during a conference on August 15, 2014, at Issru (Khanna), today alleged “harassment” by ruling party leaders. He said leaders of the ruling party were creating obstacles in the opening of his election office here.
Bikram said he had seen three-four accommodations for opening his election office in old Dhuri city. Initially, the owner of each of these accommodations agreed to give him the property, but later all of them backed out citing external pressure. However, none of them disclosed the name of any ruling party leader, he said.
In such a situation, he said, he had to set up his office on the outskirts of Dhuri city on the Bagrian road. It was about 2 km away from the old city, he said.
SAD candidate for the Dhuri byelection Gobind Singh Longowal has refuted the allegations levelled by Bikram. He said no SAD leader or worker had done any such thing.
Flag march by police
The police and security forces, led by Dhuri DSP Krishan Kumar Panthey staged a flag march in the Dhuri city on Thursday. The aim was to send a message to the people that no one would be allowed to create disturbance during the bypoll. About 125 personnel of the anti-riot police force also participated in the flag march.
