Kapurthala : Kapurthala Congress under the leadership of General Secretary Surinder Pal Singh Khalsa, Block President Manoj Bhasin and District rural president Gurdeep Singh Bishanpur burnt the effigy of drug smugglers at Court Chowk in Kapurthala . Earlier these leaders along with hundreds of Congress activists organised a wrath rally that passed from different chowks and bazaars to reach at Court Chowk.

General Secretary Surinder Pal Singh Khalsa while addressing the gathering said that a drug smuggler Dharvinder Singh alias Mintu, a resident of Khusropur village in Kartarpur was nabbed by the Jalandhar rural police in recent past with 1.350 kg of heroin at Jalandhar-Phathankot Raod and a his photograph with local SAD leaders clearly proved their nexus with this drug smuggler , but police rather to investigate the matter harassing the Congress workers , he alleged,

He demanded a high level enquiry to prove nexus of SAD leaders with drug smugglers besides action against those cops who harassed the Congress leaders and workers. He said that if police not acted in this matter then district Congress would step out on the after MLA, Kapurthala Rana Gurjit Singh returned from the foreign land on May 29, he warned
