Cops let Badal bus go for want of complaint

NAWANSHAHR: Kathgarh Police on Wednesday released the Mercedes-Benz bus of Dabwali Transport Company Limited owned by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal that had hit the Toyota Innova (PB-08CR-6804) of former jails minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA from Kartarpur Sarwan Singh Phillaur and two other vehicles at Rail Majara village on Tuesday evening.
Kathgarh SHO Daljit Singh said the police had not received any complaint from anyone regarding the accident, so no action could be taken.“The bus was taken to the police station on Tuesday only as a preventive measure, apprehending a protest by the people and to cool tempers,” the SHO said.
The bus had also hit another Toyota Altis car (PB07-AD-3363) belonging to an additional deputy commissioner (ADC) and a bike on Jalandhar-Nawanshahr highway (NH-344 A) after hitting Phillaur’s car. His wife Nirmaljeet Kaur (60) had a narrow escape in the horrific accident. Two motorcyclists Lovekesh (18) and Vikas (20) of Tajowal village were injured in Singh Lucky and Surinder Shinda blocked the highway and protested against the bus company, demanding immediate arrest of the owner.
The protesters had raised antigovernment slogans and had been adamant on their demand that the bus be impounded. The bus (PB03-X-2700) was on its way from Pathankot to Chandigarh when it hit the Innova from the rear after overtaking another bus. The driver of the Innova Sohan Singh sustained minor injuries. Congress party leaders and local residents had blocked.
