Cong councillors lock gate of Lehragaga MC

Sangrur : Some Congress municipal councillors (MCs) today locked the main gate of the office of the Lehragaga Municipal Council in protest against non-execution of development works in the town. They also held a demonstration.
The councillors alleged that development works in the town were not being executed by the council authorities due to which roads of the town were in a bad shape while the sewerage work was also incomplete. The councillors had earlier given a warning that if development works were not started in a big way they would lock the office of the council.
When contacted, Lehragaga SDM Navreet Kaur Sekhon said the councillors had handed over the keys of the office to her. She sent the Lehragaga SHO and executive officer (EO) of the council to do the needful. She said later the matter had been resolved.
The SDM said the councillors had also said the EO did not come to office regularly. She said as the EO had additional charge of the council, so she had instructed him to be present on every Wednesday in the office at Lehragaga.
The councillors have also given 20 days’ time to the government for starting development works otherwise they would again lock the office.
