Jagraon : Members of Youth Congress carried out a protest march against Bikram Singh Majithia during his visit to Jagraon today. They raised slogans against Majithia who was in town to inaugurate the newly constructed buildings of Tehsil Complex and Patwar Station.
A large number of Youth Congress activists led by Punjab Youth Congress secretary Kamaljit Singh Brar, former Youth Congress president of Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency Deepak Khadoor and Jagraon Youth Congress president Harman Galib started their protest march from local Grain Market.
As soon as the protestors reached near Lal Palace cinema on Ludhiana-Ferozepur highway, they were stopped by the police. Following this, the protesting activists staged a dharna on the highway. Blaming Majithia for rampant drug abuse in the state, protesting activists raised slogans against him.
The dharna staged by Youth Congress activists caused a traffic jam on the highway and when the police tried to move away the protestors, the Youth Congress activists clashed with the police. Following this, the cops used mild force and cane charge to disperse the crowd of protestors.
According to sources, some of the protesting Youth Congress activists were also detained by the police. However, they were released by the police later.
