Congress protests over ban on Indira, Rajiv’s stamps

PATIALA: Members of the Nabha Youth Congress (NYC) staged a protest against Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Monday for discontinuing the stamps of former PMs and Congress leaders Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. The protestors, who were agitating under the leadership of senior Youth Congress leader Bunny Khera and NYC vicepresident Dharampal Mittal, burnt Modi’s effigy outside the Nabha post office.

Members of NYC threatened to disrupt the functioning of the district’s post office from September 28 if the central government did not revoke its decision of discontinuing the Congress leaders’ stamps. They urged Modi to work for the welfare of the public as the country’s Prime Minister and not as the worker of an antiCongress party.

CONGRESS LEADER DETAINED
Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency youth president, Rahulinder Singh Sidhu along with his supporters was detained by local police for protesting at a post office in Lehragaga.

Sidhu said it was shameful on the part of centre to abruptly withdraw the stamps of former Congress leaders and alleged that the government was indulging in vindictive politics.
