NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday raised the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat, the main rabi crop, by `75 per quintal for the 2015-16 season. The MSP, which was `1,450 per quintal for 2014-15, has been hiked to `1,525.
Faced with high prices of pulses, the Centre hiked the MSP for masoor and gram dal by `250 per quintal each. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) also approved a bonus of `75 per quintal for gram and masoor dal over and above the MSP. “The CCEA has approved the increase in the MSP for rabi crops of 2015-16 season to be marketed in 2016-17,” power minister Piyush Goyal said after the meeting. The MSP of six rabi crops — wheat, barley, gram, masoor, rapeseed-mustard seed and safflower seed — has been increased as recommended by the government’s advisory body, the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, he said.
The MSP of masoor dal and gram (chana) for 2015-16 would be `3,325 and `3,425 per quintal, respectively.
