Sangrur : Villagers and members of the Naujwan Bharat Sabha (NBS) gheraoed the residence of Gobind Longowal, SAD MLA from Dhuri, at Longowal village today. The protesters alleged Longowal had done nothing to resolve their problems. However, Longowal wasn’t present at his residence.

The protesters alleged there was a shortage of doctors in the community health centre in Longowal; government schools for boys and girls didn’t have enough teachers; and two liquor vends had not been shifted from near a school. The villagers had been protesting in the village for the past few days.

Bhupinder Longowal, an NBS leader, alleged the government had turned a blind eye to their demands. He warned that if their problems were not resolved soon, they would gherao the residence of Finance Minister Parminder Dhindsa in Sangrur on February 20.

He alleged the NBS would also burn effigies of the state government at various chowks of the village before February 20. He said they would also oppose those leaders who would hold sangat darshan programmes in Longowal.

Among others who addressed the protesters were Punjab Students’ Union leader Shanker Badra, youth leader Sukhwinder Malhi and farmer union leader Nirmal Nimmi.
