Tarn Taran : A Class IX schoolgirl was allegedly stripped in Tur village, near here, a few days ago, but the police registered a case yesterday.
The National Commission for SC/ST has taken serious note of this incident that took place on April 4. As per the police report, the accused also made a bid to rape the girl.
A former Akali sarpanch, Joginder Singh, his three sons and other members of his family were booked, the police said today.
Raj Kumar Verka, Vice Chairman of the National Commission for SC/ST, has asked the local SSP to be present at the commission’s Delhi-based office on April 15 with the action taken report and the video of the incident. He has also ordered the district police to add section under the SC/ST Act in the case registered against the accused.
The SSP, however, said: “As the accused too belong to the SC community, the SC/ST Act cannot be applied.”
Verka contacted the victim’s family on phone and issued instructions to the Goindwal Sahib DSP and the SHO for recording the statement of the girl and to conduct her medical examination.
