RAPE ACCUSED AKALI LEADER SURRENDERS

TARN TARAN: Three weeks after registration of rape complaint against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Kulwinder Singh, who is former sarpanch of Gorkha village, he surrendered before the local court on Friday. The court has sent the accused in judicial custody.
Deputy superintendent of police (city) Harpal Singh said they were conducting raids on possible hideouts. The accused had been sent to Patti sub-jail, he added.
The case was registered on complaint of an 18-year-old girl, a resident of Kuharka village, on May 21 at Sadar police station under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Two days after the first information report (FIR) was lodged, the police had arrested the complainant in an old murder case, in which she was a co-accused, resulting in outrage.
