MUKTSAR: Despite a bloody clash taking place between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) workers in Malout, during rally of AAP’s Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann, resulting in injuries to at least six persons, the police have registered a daily diary report (DDR) on injured AAP volunteers’ complaint but no first information report (FIR) is filed.
The police have registered a DDR under section 323 of Indian Penal code (IPC) on statement of Sukhjinder Singh, who suffered a head injury in the clash. The cops say that they acted on the basis of medico legal report (MLR) of the injured and according to the nature of injury; only a DDR was required.
“We found that it is not required to register a formal case as per the medical report,” said senior superintendent of police (SSP), Muktsar Gurpreet Singh Gill. He said that those injured from other group are not in a position to record the statement yet.
Meanwhile, AAP’s Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann and Faridkot MP Sadhu Singh met the injured party workers at Muktsar civil hospital on Sunday.
Mann alleged that police is trying to play down the incident which is reflected from the fact that only a DDR has been registered in this connection instead of formal FIR against the SAD workers.
He said, “Despite the fact that SAD workers were sitting in the rally for which AAP had taken permission, and attacked AAP volunteers, police was not willing to register a case.”
Mann said that a delegation of AAP leaders will meet the director general of police Suresh Arora on Monday, demanding a case against the accused. He said that if police fails to register a case, AAP workers will resort to state-wide agitation.
At least six persons were injured in a clash during the rally of Bhagwant Mann in Malout on Saturday, after SAD workers gate-crashed into the AAP rally.
Both groups indulged in stone pelting and throwing chairs at each other.
