Gurdaspur : Senior state BJP leaders warned Gurdaspur SAD MLA G S Babbehali on Monday that if he did not stop assaulting their cadre they would demand that he not be given a ticket in the forthcoming elections.
Gurdaspur BJP president Ashok Vaid, who since long has been at the receiving end of the legislator’s jibes, informed his high command of the MLA’s ‘misdemeanours’ following which a meeting was convened. The meeting was held to discuss the party’s booth-level preparations but discussion veered around to the legislator’s activities which many felt were “damaging the party’s fabric and also were discouraging the cadres.”
State vice president and former Jalandhar mayor Rakesh Rathour, Vineet Joshi and Vinay Puri, both party secretaries, were among those attending the proceedings. The tag of a ‘booth-level meeting’ was just a camouflage. “The actual motive was to corner Babbehali,” admitted Vaid. Rakesh Rathour confirmed that the state leadership had taken strict note of the fact that the legislator was perennially ignoring the BJP workers. The leaders claimed that if things did not change they would be constrained to ask the SAD leadership to either change him as the party candidate or let BJP contest the seat.
