Clash among Akalis at Lambi leaves five hurt

Bathinda : A tussle to keep the cheques of some beneficiaries of the pro-poor schemes, who were absent on the occasion, led to a clash between two groups of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal in the the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s home turf Lambi took place on Thursday.

The unruly scene, during with five persons reportedly got injured, was witnessed at gurdwara at Sehna Khera village, in the presence of CM’s OSD Balkaran Singh.

It is learnt that the factions led by former sarpanch Jaswant Singh and Jasmel Singh Mithri on one side and Kuldeep Singh, husband of sarpanch Kiranjit Kaur, and Babbu Brar, on the other, raised objection over keeping the cheques of some beneficiaries who were not present there with them.

Someone from the groups hurled an abuse and within moments it was a free for all. The violent mob didn’t mind throwing chairs, stones, bricks at one another. After the whole violent scene of about 20 minutes some cops reached the spot and controlled the situation.

While speaking to media persons, Kuldeep Singh alleged that the things were going on smoothly but someone from the other faction used abusive language and passed casteist remarks, which spoiled the things.”

Meanwhile, people from Jaswant Singh group said the clash erupted as the husband of the sitting sarpanch wanted to keep cheques of some beneficiaries with him, which they objected to.

The Lambi police are learnt to be investigating the case.
