Contractual employees served with lathis, water cannons, tear gas

Bathinda : Several agitating activists of the ‘Theka Mulazam Sangharsh Morcha’ were injured in a police action at village Kotha Guru in Bathinda district, when they were marching towards the Panchayat minister Sikander Singh Maluka’s residence.
The agitators were scheduled to lodge protest outside Maluka’s place after holding a ‘flag march’in Rampura assembly constituency. Started from Rampura, the march had covered various villages including Mehraj, Sidhana, Selbra, Gumti Khurd, Bhai Rupa and Jalal. Once it reached village Kotha Guru, police attempted to intercept the agitators.
Firm to march forward, the protesters got indulged in physical duel with the cops, including females. The police then resorted to lathicharge, followed by opening water cannons and then lobbying tear gas shells.
Numerous agitators including females sustained injuries. The agitators also alleged that police even damaged the vehicles boarding which they were holding the ‘flag march’.
Claiming committed to get their right, the agitators said that undeterred they would keep the agitations on till the government fulfils their demand of regularisation of jobs.
