HOSHIARPUR: A bus belonging to Rajdhani transport company, in which the Badal family reportedly has stakes, hit a motorcycle, killing two men, near Hariana town in Hoshiarpur district on Monday. About a dozen passengers were also injured as the bus too overturned. The injured were admitted to hospitals in Hariana and Hoshiarpur.

The deceased have been identified as Mangat Ram (46) of Rauwal village and Balbir Singh (55) of Bhalana village. The bus was on its way from Pathankot to Hoshiarpur. Near Hariana, it hit a motorcycle and the two men riding the two-wheeler died on the spot. The victims were plumbers by profession and had come to Hariana for purchasing some material.

Police registered a case against the bus driver under Sections 304-A (causing death due to negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code, but not before the kin of the deceased held a demonstration and blocked the road traffic. “We have registered an FIR and impounded the bus, but the driver is at large. We are trying to track him,” said Manjit Singh, the station house officer.

AAP candidate from Hoshiarpur, Ravjot Singh, also joined the protesters and asked the police to arrest the driver. He alleged that buses owned by leaders of the ruling party creating terror on the road, but neither transport department nor the police have guts to check them.
