Akali Sapanch held for assaulting, parading cop partially naked

Bathinda : A day after one Head Constable of Bathinda Police was mercilessly beaten up and paraded ‘partially naked’ at village Virk Kalan by the son of the Akali Sarpanch of village, police have detained the sarpanch Jagdev Singh claiming that he was also involved in the assault case.
Balluana Police have registered a case against Jagdev Singh, his son Lakhbir Singh and domestic servant Gogad Singh under Sections 353,186, 365, 332, 382 and 34 of the IPC.
Bathinda SSP Swapan Sharma claimed that police teams were constituted to nab Lakhbir Singh and Gogad Singh whereas Jagdev Singh was in police custody.
As the incident drew political reactions, deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal claimed that he had directed the police not show leniency towards the accused even if any of them belonged to the ruling party.
According to information, a police head constable Malkit Singh along with his subordinate Rajinder Singh was travelling back to Bathinda from Virk Kalan village (Bathinda Airport) in his car. He parked his car on the narrow Virk Kalan-Kotbhai road. Meanwhile, a tractor-trailer passed by hit it fromside and damaged the vehicle.
Two persons later identified as sarpanch’s son and a domestic servant alighted from the tractor-trailer and confronted the policemen. The verbal argument reached to physical dual and the Sarpanch son along with his helper assaulted the cops. While the junior one fled the spot, the Head Constable Malkit Singh was targeted by the assailants.
The accused first beat him up mercilessly and then torn his uniform. No satisfied, they put him in the trolley over a cot lying in that and with a pointed weapon, they took two rounds of the village.
They then took the cop to Sarpanch’s residence and there they asked him to lick his boot. It is also alleged that they forced the policeman to drink water poured in a shoe.
Meanwhile, the junior cop who had fled the spot brought some cops along and they all rescued the Head Constable. The injured cop was then admitted to Bathinda Civil Hospital with multiple injuries.
SSP Swapan Sharma informed that the absconding son of the Sarpanch was already booked in six different cases.
